Online courses can be created in such a way that will motivate learners to keep on learning. After all, if you know that something will improve your knowledge and skills and you have a good time doing it, wouldn’t you keep on coming back for more?
Unfortunately, learning is not always met with enthusiasm. If you know that you will be forced to think or learn something, wouldn’t that feel boring? Instead of doing something fun, you have to sit and try to jam a new idea or concept in your head. So how can you change the perception of people about learning?
Think about food for a second. If you went into a new restaurant and ordered pizza, your experience while eating it will determine if you will return and order some more. If the pizza is cold and does not taste good, you will probably not return. But if the pizza ends up being the best that you have ever tasted, then that restaurant, then you know what will happen. You will probably go to this restaurant every chance you get.
The same is true for online courses. If you want learners to come back for another round of elearning courses, you have to make sure they will have the best learning experience while doing it. Here are three things that you can do to make this happen.
Keep it short and simple.
When you know that something will take a long time to complete, you will naturally feel bored just by the thought of going through it. To avoid this, make your online courses short and simple. The digital age made our attention span shorter. We want things to get done fast. If your course is long, it will not be appealing to learners. So just keep it short. If possible make it 15 minutes or less. This is especially true if the lesson is supposed to be complicated. Just divide the lesson into several bite-sized courses.
Use videos – but with limitations.
Most of us want to use videos – and that is okay. It is interesting after all. But try not to overdo it. When you use too many videos for online courses, learners might feel like spectators. When that happens, they tend to do something else. You have to make sure that the video is short and engaging. The script has to ask questions time and again to ensure that the learners are still paying attention. Also, the character in the video should talk as if conversing with the viewers. And if the video will be more than 10 minutes long – cut it short. You can make it into two separate videos.
Make it interactive.
Finally, to get learners to come back for more online courses, you have to make the current lesson interactive. They have to feel the emotion and passion of the speaker as they teach the content of the course. There are also other elements that you can use like simple quizzes with multiple choices or something that is just as easy. You can also use simulations and games to make the course as interesting and interactive as possible.
