Sometimes, it is hard to justify why we need to create custom training programs for the employees of the company. Why not just get a generic training course that you can use for the company? If there are any updates needed, you can tap into the resources provided by the authorities in the industry. Or, you can even let the employees learn for themselves. There is no need pull them out of their daily work routine just so you can teach them something new. Why not point them to the updates and let them learn on their own? Wouldn’t that be more cost efficient? Not only that, it will give employees the freedom to learn at their own pace. It will make it easier for them to juggle their usual workload and learning at the same time.
Well if you are serious about staying competitive, this is not going to work. First of all, leaving the employees to fend for their own training might produce unreliable results. They might interpret things differently. Not only that, it might lead them to implement the wrong concepts at work. This could lead to unproductive results instead of improving the workflow in the company.
A custom training program is a more efficient way of improving the knowledge and skills of the employees. You can control what they learn and not only that, you can monitor how they will react to and implement what they learned.
Of course, creating a custom training course will incur costs. You need to spend for the course that you need to create. In order to justify this expense, you may want to look into these factors.
Your competitors. You need to be aware of what your competitors are doing. To put yourself ahead of the competition, it is important that you either do what they are doing or you make sure you do it first. The latter is actually the better alternative. This is why you need to create a custom training program that is specifically yours alone. Make sure employees are given something unique that other companies will not have. That is how you end up with an edge from your competitors.
Industry statistics. It is also a good idea to research the statistics that will prove how a custom training program can be beneficial for the company. You can start by citing how elearning is improving high-profile companies – regardless of their sector. Feel free to cite elearning statistics that prove how it is more effective than the traditional training method. For instance, it allows learning on the go and more effective when it comes to retention.
Quantify the learning. This might be a bit more challenging to do compared to the other two. But you need to try and quantify how the custom training program will make the business profit. For instance, if you use a special training course to help employees learn a new skill, you can quantify how that can help them sell more. This will help you justify the cost that you will spend in your training program. Or if the training involves learning a new software program, try to quantify how that will allow the employees to work more efficiently and finish more tasks.
Look at what the employees need. Finally, you want to see how this particular custom training program will help employees. After all, it is their needs that would have to be addressed. Manpower is the most important asset of a company. Investing in their improvement is the same as investing in the progress of the company.
Use these reasons to justify the need for a well-made custom training program for the company.
